How We Meet

Preparation

Although we have no strict code for appearance or behavior, we do request that you follow certain conventions regarding dress, arrival time, and respect for the zendo (meeting space) as you enter.

Also, it would be good to know where to go for a meeting—both online during the COVID-19 pandemic and in-person when the pandemic abates.

How to Dress

Traditionally, Zen monks wore robes that were made from discarded fabric scraps, sewn together and stained a dark color with vegetable dyes.

As a nod to this tradition, please wear modest, dark clothing to avoid presenting a visual distraction to others. It is best to avoid bold colors, large logos, and decorative jewelry.

When to Arrive

Our regular meeting times are on Mondays, 6:30–8:30 p.m. Please attempt to arrive at least 10 minutes before the official start time, to allow yourself time to settle into the space. (If you are a newcomer, please feel free to arrive anytime after 6:00 p.m.)

If you find yourself running late despite your best efforts, come on in—we will welcome you wholeheartedly.

How to Enter

As a show of respect for the zendo, please remove your shoes and leave them in the hallway before you enter. Indoor shoes or slippers are acceptable for those whose medical conditions may require them.

Also, please silence your electronic devices before the meeting begins.

Where to Go (Hidden 2020-12-26)

During this challenging time of global pandemic and responsible stay-at-home orders, we are conducting our regular meetings online via the Zoom networking app. To join us (at the appropriate day and time), simply click here.

When in-person meetings again become permissible and advisable, we will return to the sanctuary at the Lake Country Unitarian Universalist Church in Hartland, Wisconsin.
